The Center was designated as the first batch of provincial-level “2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers” by the Zhejiang Department of Education in November 2012, and recognized by the Ministry of Education as a provincially and ministerially co-constructed collaborative innovation center in December 2018. The innovation center is a scientific research collaboration and achievement transformation team consisting of core units like Ningbo University, Zhejiang Wanli University, Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology, Ningbo Academy of Oceanology and Fishery, National Engineering Center for Biochip at Beijing, and 22 leading backbone enterprises of marine aquaculture industry in Zhejiang and 7 aquatic technology promotion institutions. Facing the major national strategic needs of the Zhejiang Demonstration Zone of Marine Economy, the laboratory focuses on addressing the key technologies and industrialization of the four leading aquaculture species, including improved varieties, healthy aquaculture technologies, and intelligent anti wind and wave net cage equipment, in order to implement regional innovation in the improvement, health, equipment, and agriculture and animal husbandry of modern fisheries in Zhejiang Province.
