071000 Biology (First-level Discipline)
Relying on The School of Marine Sciences of Ningbo University, the Biology Department of Ningbo University originated from the Biology Department of Ningbo Normal University in 1988, and began to enroll undergraduates in 1996, and was approved as the Key Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, Ministry of Education for Applied Marine Biotechnology in 2005, and was approved as the second-level Master's Degree Program of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2006. In 2017, Academician Chen Jianping's team was introduced to the university full-time. The first-level master's degree program in Biology was approved in 2018. The first-level doctoral degree program in Biology was approved in 2021. Provincially and Ministerially, the Co-constructed State Key Laboratory for Quality and Safety Hazard Factors and Risk Prevention and Control of Agricultural Products was approved in 2021. In 2023, it will be approved as the postdoctoral station of aquatic products. Under the discipline, there is one undergraduate program in biotechnology, which will be approved as a national first-class undergraduate program construction point in 2020.

The Department of Aquaculture of Ningbo University was originally formed by the merger of the Department of Aquaculture, Zhejiang Ocean University, and the Department of Biology of Ningbo Normal University, which has a history of 60 years. The Department of Aquatic Sciences was awarded the second-level master's degree in "Aquaculture" in 1998, the first-level master's degree in "Aquatic Sciences" in 2006, the first-level doctoral degree in "Aquaculture" in 2007, and the first-level doctoral degree in "Aquatic Sciences" in 2011. In 2007, it obtained the second-level doctoral degree, and in 2011, it obtained the first-level doctoral degree in "aquaculture", and in 2012, it was approved as the post-doctoral mobile station of "aquaculture". Aquaculture was approved as a national specialty construction point in 2007 and a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point in 2019. The discipline of aquaculture is a class B discipline in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, a class A first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and a top priority first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province. The discipline has Ningbo University Aquaculture National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, a national off-campus practice education base for college students, Key Laboratory of Aquatic Biotechnology, Ministry of Education, and Provincially and Ministerially Co-constructed Zhejiang Collaborative Innovation Center for Marine Efficient and Healthy Aquaculture.

The School of Marine Sciences, on which the field of fishery development is based, has shown strong momentum in constructing aquatic disciplines, with remarkable achievements in independent innovation. In the past five years, it has won 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Provincial Science and Technology First Prize, 12 other provincial and ministerial scientific research awards, and 22 departmental and municipal awards; several achievements have reached the international advanced and domestic leading level; it has won more than 60 nationally-funded research projects, and more than 200 provincial, ministerial and municipal projects, with a total funding of more than 60 million yuan; it has published more than 300 research papers in SCI and EI, and more than 300 research papers in domestic first-level core journals; it has also published more than 300 papers in the first-level core journals. It has published more than 300 research papers in SCI and EI, more than 800 papers in domestic core journals, written more than 20 academic monographs and teaching materials, been authorized more than 100 national invention patents, transferred or adopted more than 20 scientific research results, which have generated more than 50 million yuan of economic benefits every year, and significant social benefits.
