Foundation of teamwork: The team consists of 10 teachers, including 2 with senior professional titles, 4 with associate senior professional titles, and 3 associate researchers hired by the school. The team boasts a good research foundation and has achieved certain results in the selection and efficient breeding of new seaweed germplasm, algae stress biology and molecular mechanisms, metabolic regulation and development of active algae substance accumulation, as well as ecological effects and reproductive physiology of algae. The team has also undertaken 11 key research and development projects, including the Blue Granary Warehouse Technology Innovation program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as over 10 key projects and innovation team projects of Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation. Furthermore, the team has published over 180 papers in publications such as Aquaculture, Algal Research, Marine Drugs, and Biosource Technology, including over 90 SCI papers, and obtained 16 authorized patents and computer software copyright.
Advantages and features of a team: Team members have a multi-disciplinary research background in algae physiology and biochemistry, algae ecology, algae molecular biology, and other disciplines. They have established a technical system for algae breeding, efficient aquaculture, and functional material development, analyzed the environmental response mechanism, reproduction mechanism, and accumulation mechanism of secondary metabolites in algae, and excavated functional genes and metabolites. By adopting a multi-technology joint approach to select new germplasm of characteristic seaweed, the team established core aquaculture technologies and formed an efficient aquaculture technology demonstration system. Moreover, the team has conducted research on active substances such as astaxanthin, unsaturated fatty acids, polysaccharides, and peptides, and has developed related health functional products to achieve high-value utilization of algae resources.
