Research Team on Fish, Shrimp, and Crab Nutrition and Feed
Foundation of teamwork: The research team mainly focuses on the nutritional physiology and metabolic regulation mechanisms of aquatic animals, primarily including such breeding varieties as scylla paramamosain, portunus trituberculatus, litopenaeus vannamei, and black sea bream. (1) Project undertaking: undertaken 7 projects under National Natural Science Foundation of China; 3 provincial-level projects, 1 program in the national modern agriculture (shrimps and crabs) industry technology system “nutrient demand and feed for seawater crabs”; participated in multiple key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, national (Ministry of Agriculture and State Oceanic Administration) public welfare industry special projects, and key research and development projects of Zhejiang, and undertaken more than 10 enterprise commissioned projects. (2) Article publication and patent authorization: published over 160 academic papers, including more than 120 SCI papers and more than 40 Chinese core papers, mainly covering international mainstream journals such as Journal of Hazardous Materials, Food Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Animal Nutrition, and Aquatic Toxicology (including one article with a single IF>10 and more than 10 articles with a single IF>5); obtained 15 nationally authorized invention patents. (3) Scientific research awards: As the main contributor, the team won the second prize of the 2016-2018 National Harvest Award for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, the second prize of the Fourth Fanli Science and Technology Reward of China Society of Fisheries (Technology Promotion) under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Technology Promotion Cooperation Award (ranking the fourth place) of the 2019-2021 National Harvest Award for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, the second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and the third prize of the Ningbo Science and Technology Award.
Features of teamwork: (1) In response to the important economic marine aquaculture animals in China and Ningbo, the team built a database on the nutritional needs of important marine aquaculture fish (black snapper and larimichthys crocea, etc.) and crustaceans (shrimp and sea crabs, etc.), as well as a database on the bioavailability of feed raw materials in China; analyzed the regulatory mechanisms of digestion, absorption, transport, synthesis, and metabolism in marine fish and crustaceans, and developed new non-grain protein and fat sources to address the urgent shortage of fish meal and oil in the industry. (2) Explored the immune regulatory mechanisms of nutrients in marine aquaculture fish and crustaceans under excessive stress caused by high-density and environmental degradation; evaluated green feed additives' application effect and safety. (3) Revealed the nutrient differentiation utilization mechanism of salinity adaptation among widely saline species such as black snapper and juvenile crab, based on the impact of changes in environmental factors on the physiological metabolism of marine aquaculture fish and crustaceans.
